Slash Jams With Dave Grohl, Duff McKagan for Solo Album

Slash Jams With Dave Grohl, Duff McKagan for Solo Album: "

Slash spent yesterday jamming in the studio with Dave Grohl and Duff McKagan on a track for his upcoming solo album, the Velvet Revolver guitarist posted on his Twitter. “Doing a track for my record with Dave Grohl on drums & Duff on bass tonight, it promises to be killer,” Slash tweeted about the studio session before returning the 140-character Website to report “Great jamming w/Duff & Grohl tonight, the track is a killer instrumental, very heavy.” Between helping out Slash and serving up beats with Them Crooked Vultures, it’s almost like Grohl is a drummer again.

Slash, who’s been working on his solo album for the better part of the year while Velvet Revolver continues their slow search for a new lead singer, has enlisted a pretty impressive cast of vocalists to help him out on his solo disc. According to reports, Fergie, Ozzy Osbourne, Chris Cornell and Iggy Pop will all take the microphone, while the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Flea, Guns N’ Roses’ Steven Adler and drummer extraordinaire Josh Freese also contribute.

As Rolling Stone reported last week, Slash and his Friends will host a concert October 2nd in Las Vegas to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Mirage Hotel and Casino. Among those Friends who will appear include Aerosmith’s Joe Perry, drummer Jason Bonham, Tommy Lee, the Pussycat Dolls’ Nicole Scherzinger, Cheap Trick’s Rick Neilsen and Matt Sorum. And that’s just scratching the surface: “Oct 2nd at the Mirage is turning into quite the event. A lot of people jamming, details to follow,” Slash tweeted yesterday.

Clapton and Beck Plan Joint London Concert in February 2010

Clapton and Beck Plan Joint London Concert in February 2010: "

Photo: Mazur/WireImage
They were the biggest duo to hit Japan since Godzilla and Mothra, and now comes word guitar giants Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck are going to rock together again in 2010. The pair announced today they’ll take the stage at London’s O2 Arena on February 13th, 2010 at a joint concert that promises to be epic. As Rolling Stone reported earlier this year, Beck and Clapton shared the bill together for the first time in their careers at a pair of concerts in Japan in February. The duo had previously performed together during festival shows, but hadn’t actually shared the bill. And now that they’re moving geographically closer to the States, rumors that they’ll bring the joint show to the U.S. in 2010 are ramping up.

Check out all of Rolling Stone’s ultimate guitar coverage.

“I’ve always considered Jeff Beck to be one of the finest guitar players around. He’s a friend, a great guy, and a truly gifted musician. We had such a fun time in Japan that it seemed natural to play together again,” Clapton said in a statement today. Added Beck, “Eric and I played together in Japan earlier this year and had a blast. Since then we have been in regular contact and talked about doing a similar show for our fans. Looking forward to the show in 2010.”

Both Clapton and Beck will perform a set of their own music before converging onstage for a set together, and a press release promises their joint set will be longer than the ones performed at the Japan shows. Beck is only a select number of artists inducted into the Rock Hall twice — for his solo career and his work with the Yardbirds — while Clapton is the lone musician who appears three times in the Rock Hall: as a member of both Cream and the Yardbirds and as a solo artist. While both Clapton and Beck were both members of the Yardbirds, the two never performed together in the band: It was Beck that replaced Clapton when he left the group.

DMX Says He's 'Grounded,' Ready For Comeback

DMX Says He's 'Grounded,' Ready For Comeback: "

'The streets won't let me forget that they need me and I need them,' MC says.
By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by Shaheem Reid

Photo: MTV News

Is the Dog really back? That's the word according to DMX. The booming, barking MC has made headlines for all the wrong reasons during the past few years, but after serving time in an Arizona jail, X has been nothing short of a model citizen.

But now he's getting back to what he does best: rapping. X hopped on the Ruff Ryders remix of Jadakiss' 'Who's Real' and recently performed at VH1's 'Hip Hop Honors,' displaying his trademark sneer during his turn in the spotlight for 'Party Up.'

'I'm hungry, I'm grounded,' X told MTV News from the red carpet. 'I've always been grounded. But I'm hungrier. There's so much bullsh-- out there. I'm not gonna get into the names. You know who you are. There's so much bullsh-- out there. The streets won't let me forget that they need me and I need them.'

The Yonkers-bred MC said he plans to deliver two albums soon and wants them to drop on the same day. He didn't go into detail, but the former Def Jam superstar could be reviving his plan to release a traditional rap album as well as a gospel album.

DMX's longtime producer Swizz Beatz spoke to Mixtape Daily and said that he is getting back to form quickly. Swizz will likely serve as executive producer of the next X album. But don't get excited just yet — Swizz said he first wants to secure the ideal situation for the only rapper to release two #1 albums in the same year.

'I wanna have the proper setup where he's getting a fair chance and the most attention and most respect right now,' Swizz explained. 'I'm not putting nothing out until we have the lineup together, which we're close to having, and the streets are going to witness that raw uncut street element. X was doing $16 million movies and sleeping outside, just because that's where he felt comfortable. He's the realest in the game. He never was on no jewelry, no cars. X, he's one artist that I truly know is a real artist. It don't get no more real than X.'

Honda U3-X - Click above for high-res image gallery

We've seen our fair share of personal mobility devices over the past few years -- from the ill-received Segway to Toyota's i-Real. Now, Honda's joining the minimalist motoring set with its own limb-atrophying U3-X.

Using technology originally developed for ASIMO the robot, the 'U' in U3-X stands for both 'universal' and 'unicycle,' and that's where the interesting tech resides. Housed within the large wheel are a series of smaller wheels that can rotate independently, allowing the awkwardly perched user to go forward, backward, side-to-side or diagonally. Like the Segway, the person piloting the U3-X simply leans in the desired direction to control the movement through the Honda Omni Traction Drive System (HOT).

Honda's keen to point out that the 22-pound U3-X is ultra-portable and easy to use, with fold away footrests and seat cushions. A single, lithium ion battery powers the electric motors up to one hour and the maximum speed is just a few ticks under four MPH.

We'll see the U3-X in person next month at the Tokyo Motor Show, but before then, you can get an eyeful in the gallery below and make the jump for several videos of the U3-X in action, along with Honda's press release.

The making of Two Ferrari 458 Italias at play - click above image to watch the video

If you make a really hot, truly exotic supercar, you can make a two minute promo video that will attract tons of Internet eyes. When you're Ferrari and you've just unleashed the sexy 458 Italia, you can make one of the best teaser videos of all-time and then make a second, almost as cool video about the making of the first video.

In the footage, the director says that the goal is to make a film where the viewer gets the feeling that he or she is driving the vehicle themselves. We know we like the video, but we're pretty sure we would have rather been behind the wheel. Actually, we're thinking of making a tribute video of the 458 Italia trailer. All we need is a modified Fiat, a Mercedes SUV loaded up with cranes and cameras, a Ferrari pace car rigged with cameras, some stunt drivers, a track and a film crew. Oh, and two Ferrari 458 Italias. Hit the jump to watch the 'making of' video, as well as the finished product.

Muse To Provide Exclusive Remix For 'New Moon' Soundtrack: "

Director Chris Weitz has asked them to rework new track 'I Belong to You.'

Muse already provided one of the musical high points for the first 'Twilight' film when their 'Supermassive Black Hole' played during the vampire baseball scene. Now, singer Matt Bellamy has confirmed that Stephenie Meyer's favorite band will do the honors again by providing a reworked tune from their new album, The Resistance, for the soundtrack of the film's sequel, 'New Moon.'

Speaking to MTV UK, Bellamy said that 'New Moon' director Chris Weitz had spoken to him recently about doing a remix of the quirky piano tune 'I Belong to You.'

'He wants a rendition of that, but the only thing with the new film is they want the songs to be exclusive to the film,' Bellamy said. 'So he's asking if I mind doing, or if we mind doing an alternative version of it.'

While a rep for Atlantic Records, which is releasing the 'New Moon' soundtrack, did not confirm Bellamy's announcement, he noted that the soundtrack's lineup is expected to be announced Monday (September 21) on Meyer's Web site.

Bellamy said the band is up to the challenge. 'I think it's all right. ... If it was one of the main tracks on [our] album, I would never do it,' he said. 'But it's actually one of the weirder tracks on the album ... one of the 'can't believe we got away with it' kind of tracks. I think it might be worth giving it a go [because] it's a track that might not get played live very often ... so it might give that track some life that it wouldn't have otherwise.'

The song starts out as a swooning piano ballad, before switching into a dramatic, 1940s-style Gallic weeper in which Bellamy croons in French. While they've released four albums and are playing stadiums in their native England, it was the placement of 'Black Hole' in 'Twilight' that helped Muse gain a foothold in the United States.

'It's opened it up in some kind of way, millions of people listening to 'Supermassive Black Hole' that have probably never heard our band before, which is not a bad thing,' drummer Dominic Howard told MTV UK. 'They have all gone bloody vampire mad over there. Seriously, it's crazy!'

Muse rocked the VMAs in New York last week, and Bellamy said the performance of their new single, "Uprising," was a nice introduction to what he hopes will be their new legion of Stateside fans. "That was pretty good — we got to do our own little concert ... that kind of doubled up as an album-launch concert."

Get Ready For Our Most Controversial Hottest MCs List: "

A quick reminder to have fun with the list, in Off the Dome.
By Shaheem Reid

Just remember to have fun with it. That's right — have fun, enjoy it. You'll get excited. You might — almost definitely at some point — get upset. But this is hip-hop. This is the music and culture we love.

On September 28, my fellow MTV News Hip-Hop Brain Trust members and I will start to release our — keyword being "our" — list of the Hottest MCs in the Game. Number 10 will be announced on the 28th, nine on the 29th, etc. through October 2. Then, on October 4 during 'P. Diddy's Starmaker,' we will reveal numbers five through one. Numero uno, the number-one spot.

You know the drilly by now, right? I mean, this is the third year we've done it. Well, in case you forgot or just didn't know, a group of my MTV News colleagues and I sit down at a roundtable and discuss who we think are the 10 hottest cats in the game right now. Each year the audience is very vocal with comments, and some people even come up to us on the street to tell us how much they agree or disagree with our list. We love it.

This year, there were close to 1.5 million votes in our fan poll. The cumulative votes will be factored into the Brain Trust's rankings. But keep in mind, this is still the Brain Trust's list. Personally, I like having the fans' votes factored in. We're all in this together. I love the debate, and as anxious as you are to see who we picked, I'm even more interested to tell you guys. The Miss Cleo in me says that this is going to be our most controversial list ever. Let's get it.

Apple Pushes iTunes 9.0.1 Update: "

Today Apple pushed out the first update to iTunes 9, version 9.0.1. The most prominent change since iTunes 9's release can be seen in the behavior of the green maximize button. In iTunes 9, the maximize button no longer switched iTunes into miniplayer mode and required users to option-click the button instead. This latest update reverts the button to its previous behavior.

In addition to this welcome change, the update also 'resolves issues browsing the iTunes Store' and claims to improve overall performance in the app. Issues where iTunes may become unresponsive or unexpectedly quit should also be resolved in this update, at least to some extent.
