Liam Neeson Brings 'Gravity' To 'Hangover 2,' Director Says

Plus: 'Hangover' breakout star Ken Jeong is 'just happy' he's involved in the sequel.

With all the talk surrounding "Hangover 2" — specifically Mel Gibson's heavily hyped cameo being scrapped/ switched to Liam Neeson due to alleged disgruntled reactions from Zach Galifianakis and the rest of the cast — what we're really missing are details about the plot.

Here's what we know so far: The film is being shot in L.A. and Thailand, with the boys (Bradley Cooper, Galifianakis, Ed Helms, Justin Bartha) headed to the Far East on some sort of all-dude excursion.

When we caught up with director Todd Phillips and breakout star Ken Jeong at the premiere of "Due Date," we asked them for a few sequel teases. What takes the boys to Thailand?

"A plane," Phillips answered cheekily, indicating he wouldn't be divulging any secrets at all.

And how did Phillips choose Neeson for the cameo? "There's a lot of people [we considered]," he said. "He has gravity. Liam brings a sense of gravity. But, you know, it's a cameo, and we don't like to talk about it, because it's [supposed to be] a surprise and now it's ... I don't like to justify it."

As for Jeong, we tried our best to find out what his zany character might be up to as well.

"No comment!" he exclaimed. "I'm just happy that I'm in it. For me, this is not predestined to happen so I'm just so happy I'm involved in any moment. Anything Todd asked me to do, I would do. Anything."

What do you think of all the "Hangover 2" talk? Will it be as good as the first film? Share your thoughts in the comments!

Nicki Minaj Vents About Being A Female MC In 'My Time Now' Preview

Nicki Minaj Vents About Being A Female MC In 'My Time Now' Preview

Documentary premieres Sunday at 10 p.m. ET/PT on MTV.
By Mawuse Ziegbe

If there's one thing Nicki Minaj does not do in her MTV documentary "My Time Now," it's hold back.

The Pink Friday MC has skyrocketed to the upper echelons of the hip-hop game with a flow that swings from beastly to baby-voiced and a boldly wacky-yet-vampy persona. In the doc, the pink-wigged spitter reveals that her growing success is not just the result of her stacks of scene-stealing features, but also her insistence on being regarded as a musical force to be reckoned with.

"I put quality in what I do. I spend time and I spend energy and I spend effort and I spend everything I have, every fiber of my being, to give people quality," Minaj says in a teaser clip from the forthcoming film, hanging out in a semi-casual outfit, sporting a pale-blue T-shirt and towering Pepto-Bismol-hued wig. "So if I turn up to a photo shoot and you got a $50 clothes budget and some sliced pickles on a mother----in' board, you know what? No. I am gonna leave.

"Is that wrong? For wanting more for myself, wanting people to treat me with respect?" she continues. "But you know what? Next time, they know better. But had I accepted the pickle juice, I would be drinking pickle juice right now."

Minaj also analyzes the double standards she says plague the entertainment industry, explaining that a confident behind-the-scenes manner will often land women unfavorable and dismissive labels.

"When I am assertive, I'm a bitch. When a man is assertive, he's a boss. He bossed up. No negative connotation behind 'bossed up.' But lots of negative connotation behind being a bitch. Donald Trump can say, 'You're fired.' Let Martha Stewart run her company the same way and be the same way. [People will say] 'F---ing old evil bitch!' But Donald Trump, he gets to hang out with young bitches and have 50 different wives and just be cool. 'Oh, Donald, we love you, Donald Trump!' " Minaj quips theatrically.

The "Roman's Revenge" spitter further maintains that, to make it as a superstar, aspiring female artists are expected to juggle a superhuman amount of multitasking.

"When you're a girl, you have to be everything. You have to be dope at what you do but you have to be super sweet and you have to be sexy and you have to be this, you have to be that, and you have to be nice," she says. "It's like, 'I can't be all those things at once. I'm a human being.' "

The soliloquy is another moment in which the MC candidly provides insight, not only into her experience as a lyricist careening toward fame, but her personal views and perspectives as well. In addition to trailing the lyricist as she lays down her debut album, cameras follow the hitmaker on an emotional visit to her native Trinidad and catch Minaj as she opens up about her late grandmother.

"They're gonna meet Onika," she recently told MTV News about the doc. "Everybody sees Nicki Minaj; they're gonna meet Onika. They're gonna hear my story, and it's such an inspirational story, which I never really wanted to tell. 'Cause everyone always feels like you don't want people to know too much. But when I saw what [MTV and production company @radical.media] did, I thought, 'People need to see this.' It reminds you that everyone always feels like this is it, but there's always a light at the end of the tunnel, and I feel like that's what the doc says at the end."

Don't miss the documentary "Nicki Minaj: My Time Now," premiering Sunday at 10 p.m. ET/PT on MTV!

Kanye West Performs Rousing 'Lost In The World' At Thanksgiving Day Parade

Kanye West Performs Rousing 'Lost In The World' At Thanksgiving Day Parade

The Kanye West promo march continues, so naturally the Chicago rapper took his show to the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Amidst marching bands and balloon versions of Kermit the Frog, SpongeBob SquarePants and Spider-Man, Yeezy performed a rousing though shortened rendition of "Lost in the World" from his just-released fifth album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.

As more than two million people lined the parade route and millions more watched from home, West performed in front of Macy's flagship location near Manhattan's Herald Square on 34th Street at around 11:20 a.m. West kicked his verse from "Lost in the World" along with its chorus atop the Big Apple float, which was adorned with a giant apple and a New York taxicab coming out of a tunnel below it. Wearing a long fur vest, leather pants and a gold V-neck shirt, West delivered a spirited performance despite the fact that he appeared to be lip-synching.

Interestingly, Matt Lauer was one of the NBC broadcast's hosts of the parade. Lauer interviewed West during his infamous appearance on the "Today" show that led the rapper to cancel a scheduled performance on the program. West also compared Lauer to a child abuser during a speech at his not-so-secret show at New York's Bowery Ballroom on Tuesday night. Nevertheless, it was Lauer who introduced West.

Other performers at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade included the casts of the Broadway musicals "Memphis" and "Elf," Jimmy Fallon with the Roots, folk singer Arlo Guthrie and Keri Hilson, who performed on the My Princess Academy float.

Soul Train Awards Hosts Terrence Howard, Taraji P. Henson Talk Legacy

'This is passion, this is love, this is music right here,' crooner Ray J says of awards show, which airs Sunday on BET.

Decades after the groovy soul-music showcase "Soul Train" arrived on television sets across the nation, the 2010 Soul Train Awards are keeping the phenomenon's legacy on track by spotlighting a new generation of R&B voices.

This year's show will air Sunday, November 28, on BET and Centric, and MTV News hit the red carpet before the taping of the event to check in with some of the most respected songsmiths around today about "Soul Train" 's cultural impact.

"This is the platform for urban music and to be here today, for it to have so much longevity, this is it," "Sexy Can I" crooner Ray J said. "This is passion, this is love, this is music right here."

"The Soul Train Awards is history, man," hitmaking songwriter Sean Garrett added.

Rising R&B face Melanie Fiona agreed, acknowledging the longstanding influence of the iconic production.

"Soul Train Awards are great," she smiled. "They come with a lot of history. They come with a lot of celebration of great music. It's a great event and beautiful people, beautiful night."

For host Taraji P. Henson, the original television broadcast reminds the Hollywood veteran of "good times," and was a cultural touchstone for "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" actress.

"I just remember learning how to dress and how to dance and wear my hair from 'Soul Train,' " Henson recalled fondly. "That's where I got all my fashion tips."

An array of inventive soul stars will hit the stage at this year's event, including Bruno Mars, Cee Lo, Chrisette Michele, R. Kelly, Keyshia Cole, Ne-Yo and Erykah Badu. R&B luminaries Anita Baker and Ron Isley will be honored as Soul Train Awards Legends.

Detroit soul star Dwele chatted about the enduring legacy of the enterprise, which remained on the air for 37 years and began dishing out coveted hardware in a separate awards show in the '80s.

" 'Soul Train,' period, is music. It's our music from back in the day and it's still relevant currently, and that's a beautiful thing," he said.

Co-host Terrence Howard, who returned with Henson to helm the event once again, maintained that the "Soul Train" phenomenon transcends music and reflects the game-changing strides made by African-Americans over the last few decades.

"It reminds me of the advancement that black people have made over the years 'cause 'Soul Train' really was the beginning of that Black Power movement when we actually could see ourselves. And to have an awards show based upon that 'Soul Train,' it's headed somewhere."

Who are you looking forward to checking out at this year's Soul Train Awards? Let us know in the comments!

Review: Top Gear America is much better than we expected

http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/egmcartech/~3/9juE0BavizU/

Review: Top Gear America is much better than we expected

From L to R: Adam Ferrara, Tanner Foust, Rutledge Wood

I'm sure many of you reading this review are car enthusiasts like myself and have become accustomed to watching Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond tear up the Top Gear track in Surrey. So more or less, many of us were skeptical on how the American adaptation of Top Gear UK would pan out. Well, I'll tell you what we think here at egmCarTech.

Personally, I didn't know what to expect from Top Gear America. I too, was skeptical thinking that it was going to be a waste of my one-hour. However, I found that many of us who were skeptical, were maybe expecting a little too much.

Altogether as a program, we here at egmCarTech think that Top Gear America doesn't really seem all that bad and rather walked away from our television sets impressed. Of course, it wasn't ground breaking like the original British version. But, the budget seems high and the basics of burning rubber in expensive exotic supercars and sports cars still remains intact, naturally.

However, there were some notable drawbacks of the show that didn't exactly twist my insides like Top Gear UK does.

View Poll

Overall, there was the feeling that the producers of Top Gear America may have tried a little too hard to copy the popular, witty British humor that us Top Gear enthusiasts are used to. Additionally, any TV-goer with the slightest bit of knowledge would notice that the presenters—Adam Ferrara, Tanner Foust, and Rutledge Wood—seemed to lack some of the chemistry and the passion that made the original Top Gear crew so famous and entertaining. And Top Gear connoisseurs know the importance of the show's presenters. They seemed a bit nervous and lacked confidence in their roles on the show, but seeing as how popular Top Gear UK is, they have very big shoes to fill with high expectations. We have no doubt that they may get better as the season progresses. Even when Top Gear UK first debuted in 2002, the presenters didn't exactly have the chemistry that they have now, mostly due to the fact that James May wasn't apart of the crew until Season 2, and by season 3, the three had became the Top Gear presenters that we've known well for the past seven or so years.

Pacing was also slightly off. For example, a friend of mine pointed out that when hosts Rutledge Wood and Tanner Foust were being chased by the Cobra attack gunship in a Dodge Viper, the scene where they pulled into the car wash had lost the suspense because Foust and Wood decided to discuss the Dodge Viper in a rather boring manner.

Visually, the camera work, editing and cinematography both in the studio and out of the studio have a ways to go before they match the masters of Top Gear UK.

Aside from these drawbacks however, the content is very much entertaining and will definitely give you a couple laughs and keep you interested.

While there are drawbacks, they can't exactly be set in stone. They are aspects of the show that more or less need refining, a little smoothing around the edging. Keep in mind that it was only the premiere and we still have the entire season to see how things pan out. And even if it takes the entire season plus some to work out these kinks, Top Gear USA bests anything other motoring program that's offered in the US…especially *cough*Speed Channel*cough*.

Sure, we're used to the best and the greatest of three middle-age British men—one of them fat, balding and with a gut the size of Guinness Brewery; one who routinely gets his teeth whitened and is vertically challenged; and one who has the haircut of a cocker spaniel—knocking on each other and messing around with cars. But in my opinion, that's not what Top Gear USA set out to do. We feel that Top Gear USA's goal was to take the great original version, which started in Great Britainland, and give it a little American flair. And by all means, that's not a bad thing at all. Australia came out with their own version of Top Gear back in 2008. And while that too received negative reviews, apparently it isn't all that bad nowadays.

The best similar example I can think of was NBC's adaptation of the British show, The Office. While the British show wasn't exactly well known in the US of Americaland, it was a smash hit in Great Britainland. And US, being a capitalistic society, decided to make our own American adaptation and it has since then become one of the most popular shows on television.

So does Top Gear USA have the potential to match the success of the original program? Simply put, I know I'll be waiting to watch the next episode this Sunday.

Black Eyed Peas To Play Super Bowl Halftime In 2011

Black Eyed Peas To Play Super Bowl Halftime In 2011

Sources say the band is booked for the gig, making them the first non-rock act since Janet Jackson.

For years now, the most-coveted TV performance spot of the year — halftime at the Super Bowl — has been filled by a parade of classic rockers: Sir Paul McCartney, the Rolling Stones, Prince, Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, Bruce Springsteen and the Who.

But come this February 6, the Dallas Morning News reports that Cowboys Stadium in Dallas will be handed over to the Black Eyed Peas, marking the first time an urban/hip-hop act has played the gig since Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake's notorious "wardrobe malfunction" in 2004.

Though an NFL spokesperson told MTV News they had no comment on the booking at press time, the league typically announces the halftime performer around this time of year, and the paper cited a source close to the NFL for the information. The Peas will be in the midst of a promotional blitz for their upcoming album, The Beginning, the sequel to their multi-platinum smash, The E.N.D. (Energy Never Dies).

The Peas are used to playing to huge crowds, but the Super Bowl gig will easily be their biggest ever, as the game typically draws around 107 million viewers. It is not only usually the most-watched program of the year in the U.S., but also has a huge international viewership.

The News also sparked some speculation about what other performers might suit up for the festivities surrounding the big game, including the singing of the national anthem before kickoff. Following up on Carrie Underwood's slot last year and Oscar-winning singer Jennifer Hudson's emotional take in 2009, the paper predicted "a young, Middle America-appeal singer able to hit the notes, or an Oscar-winning R&B belter ... think Beyoncé." The latter makes a bit of sense, since Beyoncé is from Houston and is in the midst of recording a new album that could see release in 2011. Plus, she handled the job in her hometown in 2004.

As a sequel to Queen Latifah's "America the Beautiful" last year, the News floated another Texas gal, Fort Worth's Kelly Clarkson. "She's got the combo — 'American Idol' champ, budding actress, feet in the pop, R&B and country worlds. And Texas credentials: She's the big-voiced hometown gal from Burleson who recently sang the anthem for the World Series at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington."

A spokesperson for the Peas deferred comment to the NFL.

Jay-Z's 'Decoded': The Five Most Revealing Excerpts

Jay-Z's 'Decoded': The Five Most Revealing Excerpts

Jay touches on miscarriage, his assault charge, Bono and more in the memoir/ lyrical breakdown.
By Hillary Crosley and Rahman Dukes

On Tuesday (November 16), Jay-Z released his book "Decoded," explaining the history behind some of his most infamous lines. MTV News took a peek at the collection and selected a few topics and metaphors that surprised even us, the most avid of Hov followers:

Jay-Z on Bono
Jay-Z's larger-than-life influence has reached far beyond the realm of hip-hop. The MC has been closely affiliated with some of pop music's biggest entertainers, including Linkin Park, Coldplay's Chris Martin and U2 frontman Bono. Early in "Decoded," Jay elaborated on his relationship with Bono and his first impressions of the singer.

"The writer had asked me about the U2 record that was about to be released and I said something about the kind of pressure a group like that must be under just to meet their own standard. Bono told me that my quote had really gotten to him. In fact, he said it got him a little anxious. He decided to go back to the studio even though the album was already done and keep reworking it till he thought it was as good as it could possibly be."

Jay-Z on MC Hammer
Several weeks ago, Jay unintentionally offended MC Hammer on Kanye West's "So Appalled." "I lost 30 mill so I spent another 30/ 'Cause unlike Hammer, 30 mill can't hurt me," Jay spits on the track.

Hammer's response included a music video that depicted Hov as a devil worshiper being chased through a forest by Satan himself. Jay responded to the barrage of disses saying that Hammer might regret his actions after he paid homage to him in his book. Well, here's what he had to say in "Decoded."

"I remember when Hammer was the biggest star in the world, in the eighties. There were a lot of people who clowned him because of the big pants and the dancing, like he was the rapper from Disney World. But Hammer was from East Oakland. Even when he was spinning around with his pants billowing all around him, you could see in his eyes that this was still a n---a from the hood. So when he was in Forbes magazine with eight figures after his name, big pants and all, I was impressed. It was a huge moment for hip-hop. A few years later, Hammer was filing for bankruptcy."

Jay-Z on his assault charge
In another section of "Decoded," Jay highlights various rappers who have endured run-ins with the law following their success. But before their fame, these MCs barely earned a traffic ticket. And for a guy who transported enough drugs to make B.M.F.'s Big Meech blush without any police drama, Jay nearly saw his career derailed after a violent assault. The incident swirled around the release of his prized Vol. 3 ... Life and Times of S. Carter album, which leaked a month early.

"People kept giving me the same name as the source of the bootlegging. It was someone I knew, someone I never would have suspected. One night I went to Q-Tip's solo album release party and at some point in the night, I ran into the guy everyone's been telling me is behind the bootleg. So I approached him. When I told him what I suspected, to my surprise, he got real loud with me right there in the middle of the club. It was strange. We separated and I went over to the bar. I was sitting there like, 'No the f--- this n---a did not ... " I was talking to people, but I was really talking to myself out loud, just in a state of shock. Before I even realized what I was doing, I headed back over to him, but this time I was blacking out with anger. The next thing I knew, all hell had broken loose in the club. That night the guy went straight to the police and I was charged with assault."

Jay-Z on a girlfriend's miscarriage
In part four of "Decoded," Jay explains a line from "This Can't Be Life" featuring Beanie Sigel and Geto Boys icon Scarface. In the lyric, Hov says, "Baby came out stillborn, still I gotta move on" which is a direct contradiction to the way the MC handles his personal life now. Helicopters could hardly get a shot of his and Beyoncé's wedding, however, in that track, Jay-Z discusses one of the hardest things a couple can experience.

"This refers to something that happened to me around that time, 1994, when my girl of five years got pregnant and lost the baby in a miscarriage. Now, obviously, miscarriages happen everywhere, to anyone, but the point is that on top of the especially acute paranoia and disappointment and exhaustion I'm feeling from the street life, friends getting shot, your family being broke, I have to deal with the everyday tragedies that stalk everyone. And when that hits you, sometimes it becomes clear that you have to get out, that this really can't be life, it has to be more."

Jay-Z on Slick Rick
The British MC was one of the cornerstones of Def Jam Records' early years and left quite an impression on hip-hop's following generations. In the "Come and Get Me" section of "Decoded," Jay delves into why Slick was so talented, juxtaposed with Texas MC Scarface. Both icons use emotion in their lyrics: Rick through the punch line of a lingering joke, and 'Face through a brash and open delivery.

"Slick Rick also wrote some of the first rap songs that were genuinely sad — which sounds like a strange thing to say. ... Slick Rick was too much of an artist to come out with straight-up tearjerkers, but like all great comics he knew how to hide deeper emotions between the punch lines, emotions like regret and loss, the kind of feelings that could make you pause even while you were speeding down the New Jersey turnpike on the way to your hustling spot. ... Slick Rick taught me that not only can rap be emotionally expressive, it can even express those feelings that you can't really name — which was important for me, and for lots of kids like me, who couldn't always find the language to make sense of our feelings."

Jay-Z Signs Jay Electronica To Roc Nation

Mogul announces newest addition to label roster at NYC event.

NEW YORK — There's a new Jay in the Roc Nation camp.

At an event at downtown New York burlesque venue The Box Friday night, hip-hop kingpin Jay-Z announced that New Orleans lyricist and Hottest Breakthrough MC of 2010 candidate Jay Electronica is the latest signee to his Roc Nation label.

"My whole goal is to reintroduce magic to hip hop," Jay said of bringing Electronica into his fold. "We watched this wizard do his thing. Y'all supported him. And he's an official Roc Nation signee."

Rocking a black suit, white shirt and black tie, Electronica performed notable e-bangers "Exhibit A" and "Exhibit C" to the packed house. Although he's characterized by his unique and progressive approach to hip-hop, Jay Elect followed in the tradition of many Hov signees before him and threw up the Roc symbol.

"My name is Jay Electronica and my mama is here so you can't tell me sh--," the MC proclaimed. However, despite the moment of bravado, Jay Elect did politely ask his new boss if he could have the floor.

"Hov, permission to speak freely, sir," he queried.

However, the Brooklyn legend made it clear the night was all about "The Ghost of Christopher Wallace" lyricist.

"This is your show," Jay said. "You better get it."

The announcement comes after Jay Elect spent years building buzz on the underground circuit and snagging the attention of hip-hop luminaries such as Nas and Diddy.

The MC is also the latest MC to join the increasingly diverse Roc Nation family, which counts pint-size, swagger queen Willow Smith and Loud songstress Rihanna among its new additions.

'Unstoppable' Runs Over Box-Office Competition

Full-throttle flick speeds into theaters with $8.1 million.

Denzel Washington latest vehicle sped away with the box-office win on Friday. The train-bound thriller, "Unstoppable," which revolves around a locomotive careening down the tracks with dangerous cargo in tow, and also stars rising screen regular Chris Pine, arrived in theaters with $8.1 million.

The animated superhero flick "Megamind" spent its second Friday in theaters in the top five. Featuring voiceover performances from funny A-listers Will Ferrell, Tina Fey and Jonah Hill, the movie took second place, scoring $7.8 million. Friday's figure kicks the movie's total estimated haul to just under $68 million.

The road-trip romp "Due Date" continued to drive moviegoers into seats, snagging third place at the Friday box office. Zach Galifianakis and Robert Downey Jr.'s pairing as polar-opposite passengers on a kooky, cross-country voyage snapped up $5.5 million. The number bumps the movie's total estimated tally to just over $49 million.

The extraterrestrial thriller "Skyline" debuted in fourth place. The sci-fi flick about the planet's heart-stopping confrontation with aliens who descend from the sky racked up $4.7 million during its first Friday on screens. The movie features performances from Eric Balfour, Scotty Thompson and Donald Faison, who star as pals in Los Angeles grappling with the invasion.

"Morning Glory," the Rachel McAdams-starring rom-com about an ambitious, young news producer tasked with turning around an ailing morning show, rounded out the top five. The movie, which opened Wednesday and boasts performances from screen veterans Harrison Ford and Diane Keaton, picked up $3 million. The film has scored around $5.7 million since its mid-week debut.

Mythbusters make us smile - click above to watch the video

This one is good. Previously Adam and Jamie smashed a car to smithereens between two semi trucks. Which was fun, but hardly fun enough. So, they get a two-stage rocket sled and ram it into some poor, defenseless Ford Aspire -- at 650 mph! As gets pointed out in the video, the word 'awesome' is thrown around all too easily these days. That said, this is AWESOME! Maybe double awesome. Make the jump to watch the video while giggling like a ten-year-old.

Michael Jackson might be gone, but he's certainly not forgotten. With new music to be released on his posthumous album and a Jackson-centric Cirque du Soleil show set to hit the road next fall, MJ's pop-culture influence is still going strong.

When MTV News spoke to writer/director Jamie King, who is helming the Cirque du Soleil Immortal World Tour, he made it clear that when fans come out to see the show, Jackson's presence will be felt.

'It started with the music for me. I had to go back. I mean, we all know the Michael Jackson hits, but I really just wanted to sit and remember why I, as a fan, loved Michael and what his lyrics meant to me,' he said. 'I really started there, and ... it kind of became a snowball, wherein a story was being created for me. I was invited to Neverland [Ranch], and once I got there, I knew this was the environment I wanted to create for this show.

'Michael will be represented in every way possible, and that is from the video elements, holographic-type images and installation pieces to, of course, the choreography and that energy he gave onstage,' King continued. 'Essentially, there are living beings that are giving that energy that Michael would. Michael's lead vocal will always be there, because no one could sing it like Michael, but around that and outside of that, I'm going to be playing with remixing and mashing up, as well as give you some surprises and unreleased songs.'

Without giving away too much about the 90-minute Jackson spectacular, King teased a bit about what Jackson maniacs can expect: 'Michael's songs are the score for the show, and they guide us and lead us. ... Essentially, it's about following several characters as they get transported through a portal into Michael's world. This place is Neverland. In that world, we discover all kinds of things about Michael. Things we know ... and secrets.'
